Description
This piece is an exemplary Colt Single Action Army firearm from 1889, later enhanced with custom engravings by the renowned engraver David Harris. Harris adopted the Texas cattle brand motif for his designs, a style initiated by Cole Agee and furthered by Weldon Bledsoe, capturing the essence of Texas ranching heritage from the late 1800s to the early 1900s. The intricate engravings, including the distinctive “2 Lazy 2 P” brand, among others, adorn almost the entire surface, set against a dotted background, which is characteristic of the Western style.
This Colt Single Action Army bears the original Colt inscriptions and has matching serial numbers across its parts, adding to its authenticity. It comes with a letter of authenticity from David Harris, which verifies the comprehensive Agee-inspired cattle brand engraving that adorns it.
As an antique, the revolver’s condition is noteworthy. It has been meticulously maintained, preserving over 99% of its brushed nickel finish, with minor indications of wear and a subtle patina from use. The replacement grips are slightly larger than the original but are in excellent condition, complementing the revolver’s overall appearance. The revolver’s functionality is described as mechanically excellent, ensuring its status not only as a collector’s item but also as a piece of working history.
