Description
This DWM 1920 Luger Benke Thiemann Stock chambered in .30 Luger with a 3 7/8″ barrel, featuring a distinctive fin-shaped front sight and fully matching serial numbers with a crown N proof. It comes with an ingenious stamped metal folding stock that latches for use in both closed and open positions. The left side of the pistol is marked “PATENT BENKE / THIEMANN D.R.P.u.A.P.” along with “000031” on the right side. Although some of these Lugers were marked for sale in Chile, this particular DWM 1920 Luger Benke Thiemann Stock is not. It replaces the standard grips and is attached with regular Luger grip screws. There are crown N proofs on the left side of the receiver and the left side of the breech block.
The pistol has matching serial numbers “66” on the bottom of the sideplate, back of the rear toggle, trigger, takedown lever, and extractor. Several small parts exhibit straw coloring, and internal areas are in the white. Notably, the frame lacks the “Germany” marking, which is usually an indicator of export sales. It is accompanied by two good-blued 8-round magazines, one with a wood base marked “751c” and the other marked “5053b +.” The normal magazine would be tin-plated with an unmarked wood base.
This exceptional DWM 1920 Luger also includes an exceedingly rare brown flap holster designed for the pistol with shoulder stock. The front edge of the holster has a spare magazine pouch, while the rear edge features a loading tool pouch containing a nicely blued tool with an appearance of original finish. The tool pouch flap is retained with a brass stud, and the main flap of the holster is secured by a blued metal base with a loop on the holster and a metal-reinforced slot in the flap, allowing a strap on the flap to secure the holster. The back of the holster has double belt loops, and the front under the flap is marked “Kading & Trenner / Dianna-Sattelwerk / STRALSUND.”
In terms of condition, the stock assembly has minimal finish remaining, particularly on the exposed grip areas. The interior parts of this DWM 1920 Luger exhibit very good blue, and the areas protected when folded are in good condition. The pistol shows a patina tone throughout, with the finger-grooved grip area void of finish. The stock set latches solidly in both positions and is rigid when in the stock position. The pistol itself has a very good original appearance with light high-point wear, sharp markings and proofs, and no compromised profiles. The straw colors are very good with only minimal fading, and the bore is in near excellent condition.
