Specifications and Features of SIG Pistols
The SIG P210, known in military circles as the Pistol 49, holds a revered place in Swiss shooting culture. As a gesture of recognition, the Swiss Federal Department of Defense, Civil Protection, and Sports (EMD) has historically awarded the P210 as an honorary gift to winners of major shooting events.
Each honorary pistol is accompanied by a donor’s certificate, ensuring its authenticity as an official EMD gift. While engravings on these firearms add a layer of distinction, they do not necessarily confirm their honorary status without the certificate.
From January 1, 1986, military pistols began to bear a prominent “P” stamp near the trigger guard, signifying privatization:
- Pistol 49 (P210): Stamped on the left side of the trigger guard
- Pistol 75 (P220): Stamped on the right side behind the trigger guard
Notable Honorary Gift Stories
- Federal Shooting Festival (1963): ESSO-Switzerland donated a SIG P210-1 (Serial No. P 56046) with an engraved silver plate on the grip.
- Cantonal Shooting Festival (1965): SIG Neuhausen presented a SIG P210-1 (Serial No. P 57271) to Schaffhausen marksman Jules HintermĂĽller, featuring a personalized engraving.
- Federal Shooting Festival (1990): Swiss Accident Insurance awarded a SIG P210-2 (Serial No. P 305979) with the engraving “SPECIAL GIFT” above the grip.
The tradition of awarding SIG pistols as honorary gifts underscores the brand’s historic connection to excellence, precision, and the art of marksmanship. Whether in competition or collection, these firearms symbolize the pinnacle of Swiss craftsmanship.
The Specs and information on the different gun models listed below are based on Das Grosse Buch der SIG-Pistolen, “The Big Book of SIG Pistols,” by Lorenz Vetter.
