This exceptional master engraved Luger P08 began life as a 1917 Deutsche Waffen- und Munitionsfabriken (DWM) pistol and was later transformed into a striking example of European master engraving. Every visible surface has been carefully worked with deep, flowing arabesque scrollwork, executed with a consistency and confidence that immediately sets this piece apart from ordinary embellished Lugers.
The engraving extends seamlessly across the frame, receiver, toggle assembly, barrel, and small components, with careful attention paid to borders, transitions, and negative space. The scrolls are dense yet controlled, creating a cohesive visual rhythm rather than decorative excess. Gold inlay highlights key markings, including the DWM toggle motif and period-correct “1917” designation, adding contrast without overwhelming the underlying steel.
Of particular note are the engraved initials visible on the rear toggle link, which appear consistent with known examples attributed to H.
