Description
This exceptional pair of Ruger No. 1 Bicentennial rifles, serials US1 & US2, holds a unique place in American history. They were presented to President Gerald R. Ford in 1976 by the Republican National Committee to commemorate the U.S. Bicentennial, a significant event in the nation’s history.
Each rifle is an actual work of art, signed and engraved by the renowned master engraver James B. Meek, whose name is synonymous with fine engraving and author of the influential book “The Art of Engraving.”
Rifle A features a beaded-blade front sight and a quarter-rib rear sight, while Rifle B is equipped with scope bases but no open sights. Both rifles, a testament to the unparalleled craftsmanship, boast stunning blued barrels and actions adorned with exquisite floral scroll engravings and gold inlays.
The right side of each gun showcases a gold eagle, symbolizing American patriotism, with the serial numbers “1776/1976” also inlaid in gold. Rifle A’s left side is engraved with a beautifully detailed running elk. At the same time, Rifle B features a howling wolf, both rendered in semi-relief gold.
These single-shot rifles are crafted from highly figured wood with multi-point checkering, enhancing the aesthetic and functional appeal. The stocks are finished with blued steel grip caps and red rubber recoil pads.
The presentation includes a full-length leather-bound case inscribed with “PRESENTED TO PRESIDENT GERALD R. FORD BY THE REPUBLICAN NAT’L COMMITTEE” and a protective canvas cover marked “PRESIDENT GERALD R. FORD UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.”
