Japanese Service Pistol
Adopted by the Japanese military in 1982, the P220 became their official sidearm. By January 1983, SIG delivered 100 prototype pistols to Japan, with ongoing production licensed to SHIN-CHUO FACTORY LTD in Tokyo.
Description and Specifications
SIG P220 pistols feature a lightweight alloy frame and ergonomic plastic grips. Early models (Nos. 64614–64621) were not equipped with an automatic firing pin safety, reflecting the evolving safety standards of the time.

Special Features:
This is the first trial of the P 220. For the first time, the locking system is integrated into the ejection port. The recoil spring is similar to the P 210-S, 1961 variant. The slide stop is like the P 210-S but in a flat design. The safety lever is rounded, and the design is slim, a new production method.

This new P 220 “A” variant (A = Army) was specifically manufactured for the Swiss Border Guard. A total of 3,000 units were produced with the new luminous front and rear sights. Additionally, 100 units were equipped with a thinner, recessed trigger designed specifically for smaller hands.
