Description
Every now and then, a firearm comes along that stops you in your tracks. This 1993 Colt 3rd Generation Single Action Army Revolver is one of those pieces. More than a revolver, it’s a canvas — one brought to life by Master Engraver John Adams Jr., whose work has become synonymous with artistry and legacy in steel.
The first thing that catches your eye is the engraving. Dual bands wrap around the muzzle and frame, anchoring the floral scrollwork that dances down the barrel. It’s not random; it’s composed, like music etched in metal. The scrolls flow naturally, wrapping around the original Colt markings as if they were meant to be there from the beginning.
Then you start noticing the smaller details — the starburst design on the frame, the engraved ejector rod housing, even the tiny cylinder pin release. Nothing was left untouched. The loading gate bears a blooming flower so finely cut it feels alive, and the leafy motif that winds along the top strap ties everything together with quiet elegance.
Every surface tells a story. The hammer, cylinder, trigger guard, and back strap are engraved to match, creating a unified visual rhythm. And right on the trigger guard, Adams Jr. signed his name — a modest signature from a man whose work needs no introduction.
The grips complete the piece: carved steer heads with pierced horn details that bring Western tradition roaring back to life. The revolver still rests in its original Colt blue box with the matching shipping carton, its nickel finish at more than 99 percent. A few faint handling marks remind you it’s been held and admired — just enough to make it real.
For collectors, this isn’t just craftsmanship. It’s heritage, captured in metal and time.
