Description
This stunning Colt Government Model Pistol, originally manufactured in 1966, has been transformed into a true work of art by legendary Master Engraver Ray Viramontez. Known for his exceptional craftsmanship from 1967 until his passing in 2016, Viramontez applied intricate floral scroll engraving across 90% of the pistol’s surface, enhancing its beauty with masterful gold inlays. The left side of the slide features a detailed, relief gold-inlaid cougar, while the right showcases a wild boar, both framed by elegant roped gold and silver borders.
The polished blue finish on the slide’s top and lower portions contrasts beautifully with the bright, engraved panels. The frame, similarly adorned with exquisite floral scrolls and gold inlays, adds further sophistication to this remarkable piece. The serial number is inlaid in gold, and even the smaller components—such as the hammer, grip safety, and thumb safety—are finely engraved.
This piece is accompanied by a factory letter, personal correspondence between Viramontez and a previous owner, and photo transparencies documenting this artistic transformation.
This pistol is in exceptional condition, retaining 99% of its original blue finish. The engraving remains sharp, the gold and silver inlays are intact, and the smooth laminated grips are flawless, making this a prized collector’s piece.
