Description
Smith & Wesson Model 356TS&W Performance Center Prototype, identified by the serial number XPX0011, is a remarkable competition pistol chambered in 356TSW. It features a 5” match barrel with a dual port compensator and a bright, excellent bore. The metal surfaces of this competition gun retain an impressive 99% of the factory blued and anodized finishes.
In line with other examples, the slide-mounted safety has been removed and replaced with a checkered plug, aiding in the withdrawal of the slide. The frame has been extended to create a beavertail protector above the web of the hand, and the triggerguard has been squared in front, with both front and backstraps neatly hand-checkered by the custom shop. The pistol operates with a manual safety, is single action only, and features an extended magazine release, along with a large magazine funnel for efficient reloading.
The left side of the Smith & Wesson Model 356TS&W has been drilled and tapped for a custom optical sight mount, which also supports a fully functional Tasco Propoint. The checkered walnut grips are in as-new condition. Although Judy Woolley attempted to make major power factor with this firearm, she notes that it never quite met the grade. Despite being used in both IPSC and USPSA competitions, it has seen limited use, with an estimated total round count of around 200, according to Woolley.
The included factory letter, dated July 1992, states that the gun was specially built and delivered to Woolley on a “memo account.” It mentions the 5” compensated barrel, safety, optical mount, finish, and the wood grips. A single 9mm-marked magazine with a CP Bullets bumper, is included, along with a copy of Woolley’s Team Smith & Wesson card. Collectors interested in competition firearms with unique chamberings and a connection to a renowned shooter like Judy Woolley may find this offering particularly intriguing.
