Description
This collection showcases an exquisite set of engraved Colt 1911A1 and Colt Series 70 Government semi-automatic pistols by the distinguished engraver John Adams Jr., each piece a testament to the blend of historic craftsmanship and artistic embellishment.
The first pistol in the set, a Colt 1911A1 Semi-Automatic Pistol, was originally issued to the U.S. Military in 1924. It stands out with its unique “Transitional 1911” slide engravings, a signature style during that era. The craftsmanship of John Adams Jr. is evident in the intricate D+ American Scroll design, enhanced with delicate crosshatch accents that add depth and elegance to the artwork. Completed in June 2020, this pistol is a .45 ACP caliber with a classic 5-inch barrel. Its rich blue finish and luxurious pearl grips further enhance the aesthetic appeal. Each pistol in this edition is marked with “JAII”, denoting the master engraver’s hand. It is encased in a custom hardwood display case labeled “B” with serial number 706474. The preservation of this firearm is remarkable, maintaining over 99% of its original blue finish, making it a pristine collector’s item.
The second highlighted piece is the Colt Series 70 Government Model Pistol, with complete authenticity documentation. This model, particularly revered among collectors, features the .45 ACP caliber and a 5-inch barrel. The classic blue finish and rosewood grips, intricately designed with double diamond checkering, pay homage to the original Series ’70 design. Key elements such as the roll marks, firing pin, and fixed sights are meticulously replicated to reflect the original specifications. Delivered to Bill Hicks & Company Ltd. on September 29, 2015, this pistol was also engraved by John Adams Jr., showcasing an extensive floral scroll that is subtly signed “J ADAMS II” beneath the proper grip. It is housed in a display case marked with “A” and has the serial number 72B6964, ensuring its status as an exceptional piece in any collection.
Both pistols reflect the artistic mastery of John Adams Jr. and serve as stellar examples of historical weaponry combined with modern engraving artistry, making them highly desirable for collectors and enthusiasts alike.
